Frank Pasquale pointed me to this story on the effect of the EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive on theater ads, which may no longer be allowed to quote positive tidbits from generally unfavorable reviews under the standard barring any claim that “deceives or is likely to deceive the consumer” so that it “causes or is likely to cause him to take a transactional decision that he would not have taken otherwise.” Of course, that’s the basic consumer deception standard; I’m not sure this will raise the bar in any EU country.
